I glazed the frog I'm making. Nothing special with the specific way I glazed it, except that I had to go back with a smaller brush to make sure I got every detail.
Oct 6
Today I worked on the pictured relief tile and glazed a pinch pot. I used the crystal glaze because I think it would look cool.
Oct 9
First attempt at coil potting. I first tried the mini extruders but the coils produced where too small for the "base" part of a piece, and seemed better for the smaller details so I used the big extruder outside.
Oct 11
More work on the bowl was done to smooth it out and make it thinner, but I ended up not liking it so I didn't pursue it.
Oct 18
More practice with coil potting, but this time with more of a cup than a bowl, as the bowl would be too hard to make as my first coil creation.
Oct 20
I continued working on the cup from last class, although not much progress was made because I was very late and only got to class at 9:15. I also learnt that I should smooth the inside as I go instead of waiting because it was very hard to reach the inside. I wrapped this piece up to finish it up next class but I couldn't find it on the shelf which made me sad.
Oct 25
I tried to make another coil pot after the other one disapeered but I didn't like it as much. I need to be more precise with the size of the coils because it ended up not having straight edges due to a variety in coil sizes.
Oct 27
After seeing the video in class I tried to make a similar piece. I rolled clay out and cut off a circle to use as a base, and then made a long rectangle to act as the side of the cup. I think I rolled the clay out too thin because not much structural support was present. I also need to score and slip better. I'll probably try this again next class knowing what I know now
Nov 3
Made my monster for the unit 3 projects. Done using a coil and adding a circle and triangles on top, which was thankfully not too hard.
Nov 8
I did not effectively score and slip my previous worm, so I retried and did better scoring and slipping so that the spikes would not fall off.
Nov 15
I made a slump mold with darts. I did two big darts on each side which lead to it being not symmetrical across all 4 sides but I kind of like it like that.
Nov 17
I made what is supposed to be a 45lbs plate at a gym. It was hard to make the small details that would be the text saying "45lbs" and "barbell" due to the small space. Next time I would make the piece bigger and use a finer signing tool.
Nov 29
I glazed the monster. I had to do multiple coats so that it was uniform and so that the grey on the spikes didn't bleed onto the body.
