Aug 18
It was an ERA day so I did the assigned reading of a scupture.
Aug 23.jpg
I was oringinally just going to do a flat circle and draw a cat over it, but I decided to make it 3D because it looks cooler. After trying to make a cat I realized I was worse at it than expected so made the patterns without much thinking ahead of how it would look overall instead.
Aug 25
I made this shape by making a flat square and then cutting out the edges at a 90 degree angle viewed from the top. This method didn't fully work so I had to try a couple of times until I realized I needed to make the cuts at an angle so they would fit together. After this I smoothed it all out and made it even, and then made the patterns and put underglaze onto it.
Aug 28
Started doing pinch potting. First I made one that I cut in half to see how thick it was. Then I made another one to bring home.
Aug 30
I made another 2 pinch pots and combined them together to create this shape. I then added the features of a snowman because the shape looked like one.
Sept 6
I made another pinch pot to practice my pinch potting, as I have trouble with keeping it smooth.
Sept 8
I got back my fired ceramics work and am happy with the results of the underglaze. I'm pretty sure I also spent a lot of the class time updating my website, but I'm not 100% sure.
Sept 11
I was sick this day so I didn't go to school and didn't do anything ceramics related as a result.
Sept 13
I made a mushroom by making a pinch pot, and then attaching another pinch pot to the bottom of the other pinch pot such that the mushroom is hollow when viewed from the bottom. I really like this piece and wish I kept it. This could maybe count as the animal I made, but I also made a mouse later on which could count.
Sept 15
I made a pinch pot with a fitted lid. I wasn't 100% sure how to go about making the fitted lid so I just made a circle that was a little bit larger than the opening of the pot and molded it on top of the pot so that it would be fitted. I also added the ball of clay at the top to make it look like an acorn because I thought it looked cool. This photo was taken when I wasn't fully done with the piece, so the final piece has less cracks on the lid and a more rounded acorn top.
Sept 20
I tried to make what is supposed to be an overweight mouse. I did this by making one oval shaped pinch pot meant to be the body, and then attaching another much smaller pinch pot which is meant to be the head. Trying to successfully attach the two lead to a lack of definition so it doesnt really look like an animal, and instead more of a blob. It I were to re-do it I would make the nose part of it longer so you can tell it is the face.
Sept. 22
This is the start of my historically inspired piece. I found it hard to make the pot into the shape I wanted, but after a couple of tries and new techiques I was able to kind of get it into the right shape. This is only a progress photo so I ended up fixing all of the cracking on the top and improving upon the design shown,
Sept 27
I made the frog from the poster in the ceramics room. I wish I did a more oval shape for the body, because currently he is a little bit oddly shaped, but I think it adds to the charm and humor of the peice. Making the legs was very challenging, as trying to get the right size for them without making them to othick was very hard. The eyes also look a little bit goofy, but likewise I think that it adds to the vibe of the peice.
Sept 29
I wanted to make a functional pinch pot that I could actually bring home and be proud of, so I made this. It is probably the best one I have made yet in terms of its shape and consistency in thinness. I had troubles which making the handle, so it ended up looking oddly shaped and geometric, but I could imagine it may end up looking cool if a likewise funky color or pattern of glaze is used.
